The tasks a Laboratory Assistant, Soil is expected to perform include:
- Setting up apparatus and equipment to conduct routine soil tests in laboratory
- Determining soil characteristics to correct soil defects and raise fertility
- Assisting Soil Scientist or Chemist as required
- Collecting samples of required type of soil
- Getting the samples dried in oven
- Ensuring the sieving of soil for required size and weight
- Determining properties of soil such as strength, permeability, water or nitrogen content, etc.
- Adding or eliminating chemicals and salts from soil as directed by soil technologist or chemist to render better yield
- Maintaining record of reading or observations for calculations and reference purposes
- Preparing standard chemicals and solutions required for testing samples
- Report to Farmer & Maintain Record.
